BUFFALO — Today, Tuesday November 11, 2025, City of Buffalo Mayor-Elect Sean Ryan announced that BuildABetterBuffalo.com — the Mayor-Elect’s official transition website — has received more than 500 job applications in just five days since its launch, and one week since Election Day.
This overwhelming early influx of applicants eager to help the Ryan Administration shape the next chapter of Buffalo’s future is a response to more than 90 jobs that have been posted, including postings for each of the city’s commissioners and many other senior-level positions.
The site, launched on November 6, invites applicants from across Western New York and beyond to apply for roles in the incoming administration. Opportunities range from senior leadership positions to dozens of other exempt roles across City Hall, reflecting Mayor-Elect Ryan’s commitment to transparency, inclusion, and accountability in building a government that truly works for everyone.
“Buffalo is already heading in a new direction, and people are stepping up in droves to help make it happen,” Ryan said. “This incredible response shows the enthusiasm across our community to get to work building a city government that delivers results for every neighborhood.”
The transition process is being led by two Transition Co-Chairs: Trini Ross, former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York and current Partner at Harter, Secrest, and Emery, and Dr. Marie Cannon, President and CEO of the Community Action Organization of Western New York. Together with Executive Director John Maggiore, they oversee a transition team of more than 65 local leaders representing the business, labor, education, housing, public safety, and nonprofit sectors.
“The response has been overwhelming and inspiring,” Ross said.
“We’ve seen applicants from every neighborhood, background, and walk of life — people who believe in Buffalo and want to be part of something bigger,” Cannon said. “It’s exactly the kind of community energy and collaboration that will help this administration succeed.”
"Mayor-Elect Ryan is focused on putting together an all-star team to build a brighter future for the City of Buffalo,” Maggiore said. “If you are interested in being a part of the new administration, send your application in today."
The transition team, organized into seven subcommittees, is tasked with identifying and recommending candidates for more than 50 senior-level positions, while also supporting recruitment for over 90 total roles throughout the administration. The early response underscores the depth of talent and optimism among Buffalo’s residents as Mayor-Elect Ryan prepares to take office in January.
“From business leaders and labor representatives to community advocates and educators, our transition team reflects the best of Buffalo,” Ryan said. “Together, we’re building a foundation for an accountable, transparent, and responsive city government — and the strong start to this process shows how much potential there is in our community.”
