Distinguishing Features
Acts in place of the Commissioner of Public Works, Parks, and Streets.
Relieves the Commissioner of administrative and personnel matters.
Serves as a liaison with all divisions: Administrative, Buildings, Engineering, Parks and Recreation, Streets, Telecommunications, Water.
Advises and participates in divisional activities; approves departmental proposals and actions.
Typical Work Activities
Confers with and advises division heads on operational and personnel issues.
Participates in staffing decisions: placement, selection, discipline, grievances, attendance, reductions in force.
Conducts studies and prepares reports for short- and long-term departmental planning.
Recommends changes to departmental policies and procedures.
Researches applicable codes, laws, rules, and regulations; assesses impact and recommends remediation if needed.
Oversees department budget, reviews expenditures, and approves reallocation requests.
Performs duties and exercises authority as directed by the Commissioner.

Preferred Minimum Qualifications
Must meet the same qualifications as the Commissioner of Public Works, Parks & Streets, as defined in the City of Buffalo Charter.
