Duties and Powers

Under the direction of the Commissioner of Public Works, Parks & Streets, the Deputy Commissioner of Public Works, Parks & Streets, for Buildings & Energy Management, shall have supervision and management of the affairs of the division:  the care, control, management and maintenance of all public buildings, including those that are vacant or unoccupied.

The Deputy will also be charged to develop, coordinate and manage a city-wide energy procurement and conservation program for gas and electric utilities, to procure the best possible rates and service for the City of Buffalo.   S/he will work closely with all city departments and outside agencies to monitor usage and develop conservation programs.

The Deputy shall also exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed by any provisions of the City Charter or by law or ordinance and as directed by the Commissioner.

Preferred Minimum Qualifications

  • Same qualifications as required for the Commissioner of Public Works, Parks & Streets as outlined in the City Charter.

    • The Commissioner must meet one of the following criteria:

      • Be a civil engineer with at least five years of professional experience;

      • Have at least five years of full-time experience in a supervisory position in public service or business administration; or

      • Possess an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the office.
