DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An incumbent to a position in this class performs duties under the supervision of the Corporation Counsel or a designee. The duties of this position involve the performance of research and analysis and making confidential recommendations on all activities of the department. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures, with some leeway for exercising independent judgment where no established guidelines are set. No supervisory duties are exercised.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
- Functions in a confidential capacity in the performance of duties as directed by the Corporation Counsel or a designee;
- Researches, compiles, analyzes and verifies data and pertinent information in relation to all activities of the department;
prepares reports and presentations on same;
- Assists in the preparation of confidential material to city officials, union officials, courts, etc., on confidential matters such as labor, contract negotiation and other sensitive matters;
- Communicates with other governmental jurisdictions and outside agencies regarding specific functions that may relate to the department;
- May act as a liaison between the department, city officials, union officials, outside agencies, etc.;
- Operates a personal computer involving the use of application programs;
- Performs a wide variety of tasks as required to assist the Corporation Counsel in carrying out his/her duties.

- Thorough knowledge of legal terminology, documents and forms;
- Good knowledge of research procedures;
- Ability to understand and interpret policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the Department;
- Ability to gather, analyze and assemble information for presentation;
- Ability to maintain records and reports of a confidential nature;
- Ability to understand and carry-out oral and written directions;
- Ability to operate a personal computer in the use of application programs and other related office equipment;
- Ability to get along well with others and to establish an effective working relationship with government officials, the general public, etc.;
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and trust;
- Integrity; tact; courtesy;
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
PREFERRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(A) Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university (any major);
OR
(B) Graduation from High School, GED or Equivalency Diploma and three years of full-time responsible legal experience involving research or investigations.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated to meet full-time experience requirements.
