Distinguishing Features
Works under the supervision of the Commissioner or a designee.
Performs research, analysis, and provides confidential recommendations on departmental activities.
Exercises independent judgment when no guidelines exist.
Typical Work Activities
Acts in a confidential capacity as directed by the Commissioner.
Researches, compiles, analyzes, and verifies information related to departmental activities.
Prepares materials, presentations, and confidential recommendations.
Drafts confidential correspondence to city officials, union representatives, and other agencies.
Investigates complaints and prepares reports on findings.
Analyzes operations and advises department heads on recommendations.
Maintains confidential records and reports.
Acts as a liaison between the department, officials, and outside agencies.
Operates a personal computer with application programs.
Performs a variety of tasks to assist the Commissioner in carrying out duties.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics
Basic knowledge of relevant terminology, documents, and forms.
Knowledge of research procedures.
Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and departmental rules.
Ability to gather, analyze, and present information effectively.
Ability to maintain confidential records and information.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Competence with computers and related office equipment.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with officials, the public, and colleagues.
High degree of integrity, tact, and courtesy.
Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of 60 college credit hours from a recognized institution, and
Two years of full-time community service experience or directly related work experience.
Notes:
Part-time or volunteer experience can be pro-rated to meet full-time requirements.
Proof of education must be presented at the time of appointment.
